3rd Facilitator's hat
- An area where your role as facilitator is important is in managing the class. You need to monitor who is coping and who is not, identify those falling behind and who might need your support to get back on track. You also need to grade assignments and provide feedback.
In the previous unit we investigated virtual classrooms. Many of these platforms provide tools to allow you to manage and administer teh course. Below are some examples of how you might do this using the Moodle platform.
Check enrolments- Are the right people enrolled for your course? Checking that the correct people are enrolled and that they have accessed the course materials and activities is an important managerial responsibility. Consider the video below,
Track student progress- Student activity is being tracked on the Moodle platform and course completion tracking statistics are available to the facilitator. You can see their progress through this unit of study by accessing course statistics in the right hand block at the top of the screen. Use the links below to see how to access these statistics.
- After reading the activity report, what should be done about those students who are falling behind? Got some ideas? Create a four-slide PowerPoint presentation outlining what you think should be a good strategy to ensure no one gets left behind. Use the assignment tool below to submit your assignment.

Grade assignments and provide feedback- Grading is another opportunity to discern how the course is going and to what extent students are engaged. It is important, however, to use marking of assignments as an opportunity to provide students with feedback too. Quality, insightful feedback is a powerful student motivator.
Monitor certificates and badgesOnce students have the completed the course, or a specific section of a course, the Moodle platform can activate a personalised digital certificate and/or release a digital badge. As a facilitator you should monitor that this automated process goes without a hitch. You can see a list of the criteria and which students have been awarded certificates and badges.
