Evaluation criteria
There are many evaluation criteria for both open and general resources, and both online and offline resources. We have compiled a comprehensive list of quality criteria below, but to summarise, look for these characteristics when evaluating online (and offline) digital resources:
- How current is the resource? (Up to date?)
- How relevant is the resource? (Aligned to the syllabi?)
- Is the resource created by someone who is an authority on the topic? (Renowned source or your next-door neighbor?)
- How accurate is the resource? (Trusted or unknown source?)
- Is it a quality resource in terms of production? (Professional?)
- Is the resource easily accessible? (Can you rework it easily?)
- Is the resource interactive or does it encourage activities? (Offers activities and feedback?)
- How is the resource licensed? Is it OER? (Creative Commons? Full copyright?)
- How compatible is the resource to the learners' environment?
