A] Introduction
Promoting learning in the ECD classroom entails interactions either between the teacher and learner or amongst the learners themselves. These interactions are very useful as they facilitate meaningful learning.
During this unit of study, we will examine:
- The main domains of teacher-learner interactions
- How to create conducive teaching and learning environments incorporating the above domains, with the ultimate aim in mind of supporting ECD
- Existing guidelines provided to the Zimbabwe ECD education

Discuss the following highlighted ECD issues with your colleagues:
- Classrooms
- small classrooms
- high classroom pupil ratio
- age inappropriate furnitures
- poorly arranged classrooms
- Parents
- parental pressure on teachers to use English as the first language instead of the mother tongue
- parental misconception that ECD children are not learning when they're playing
- Feeding schemes
- review the case study in the document below and discuss the relevance of this situation in your school environment
- Equipment
- availability of play equipment and toys (both indoor and outdoor)
Which of the above ECD issues resonant with you and your school environment? Discuss potential ways in which to resolve the above issues. Each person should post at least three comments and three replies.Take note and reflect on these discussions since you will be requested to submit an assignment later on including your observations, analysis and ideas on how to resolves these issues should they be present in your school.

- How effective do you think the teacher-learner interactions are in your school's ECD classrooms?
- What improvements could be made to the above?
- Drilling down specifically to the three domains discussed in the tutorial, how are your ECD teachers faring in this regard? What can you, as the school leader, do or change to improve the learning experiences of the ECD children in these domains?

D] Summary
Having reviewed what type of teacher-learner interactions should be taking place and what a conducive learning environment should look like, the next question is how do you, as the school leader, evaluate and improve the situation?
In the next module, we will be exploring the importance of supervision for growth, the importance of lesson observations and feedback. Your teachers are an asset and you, as the school head, have the responsibility of providing the platform for the teachers to develop to their full potential ultimately resulting in staff retention, a happy teacher team and learners achieving their learning outcomes.
