In order to create a conducive learning environment, the observing of teaching, learning and providing actionable feedback is one of the important ways in which to promote teacher professional growth as well as improve the learning environment.
During this unit of study, you will learn about:

Let's have some fun now! Having reviewed the tutorial, you would have come across both a video, and explanation, of the Johari window. For this discussion:- Identify something about yourself which falls into the 'Arena' area of the Johari window

Assignment
Create a PowerPoint presentation on the lesson observations procedure which currently exists in your school. Ensure that the following points are covered in your presentation:
- What makes you (or your teachers) uncomfortable about being observed teaching?
- What is your school's current procedure with regards to lesson observations?
- What protocols do you follow?
- What do you think are the benefits of lesson observations in the ECD classroom?
- What prevents you from observing ECD teachers in a lesson?
- What method do you use to provide feedback?
- Who observes the lessons?
- Do you feel that the lesson observations are effective?
- How often do the lesson observations take place (with the same teacher)?
- Are action plans and goals set in the feedback sessions? Are these reviewed in the next session to see if the teacher has achieved the goals?
- How can you improve this process?
- Do your teachers buy-in to this process?
