The Internet is a large computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide. It makes it possible to access information about anything from millions of different sources around the world. This network allows information to be transferred between computers and allows anyone with access to the Internet from anywhere including Nigeria Australia to communicate and find information .
The most popular free Internet service is the World Wide Web (WWW). The WWW allows people to look at information easily by using ‘Hyper Text Transfer Protocol’ (HTTP). HTTP is a set of rules for exchanging information on the Internet. This unit will therefore guide you through the basics while providing up-to-date information on the latest online tools and technologies that you can integrate.
When you have studied this unit, you should be able to:
- describe the functions of internet in the teaching and learning process
- assess the contribution of digital resources and ICT based learning activities to curriculum implementation
- identify digital resources that support curriculum
- develop ICT based learning activities / exercises

As beneficial as the internet can be, it is important to remember that because they are in their formative years, students need to be protected from over-use and illicit websites. Internet safety is of the utmost importance in the education sector and an internet safety policy can go a long way in protecting students.
