The downside of E-mail

Although e-mail is an extremely beneficial tool, it does have some down-sides that everyone needs to be aware of.  Some of the negative aspects of email are:

  • Miscommunication –If you are not careful, the language that you use can be misunderstood.
  • Not everyone has an e-mail account.
  • If you do not have a password that only you can remember, your account can get “hacked”. “Hacking” is when a person uses special skills to get into your e-mail account.
  • You might need to wait a long time to get a reply.
  • If you do not know the other person’s e-mail address, you will not be able to e-mail them.
  • “Spam” email is a big problem – “Spam” messages are irrelevant or inappropriate messages that are sent to large groups of people via e-mail. This could be:
    • advertisements
    • fake competitions
    • E-mails with attachments that contain viruses If you open the attachment, it will infect your computer.
