Set up your email account

Now it's time to set up your own Gmail account by applying the methods that you have learnt.

Tips to remember:

  • Think of an e-mail address that it easy to remember and that you can identify with eg. If your name is Jane Banda and your birthday is on 4 March 1978, you could make your e-mail address:
  • Choose a password that you can remember easily, but nobody else will be able to guess. A good password has letters, numbers and special characters in it such as an exclamation mark (!) Or a question mark (?).
  • An example of bad passwords for Jane are:  “password” or “janebanda”
  • An example of good passwords for Jane are: “Library?1978”  or  “Mandela0403!”
  • Remember: an email address includes a unique name that you choose followed by “@” and then the internet service you are using. So if you are using a Gmail account, it could be JoyceBanda1@gmail.com, but if you are using Yahoo, it will be JoyceBanda1@yahoo.com.
