Topic outline

  • Introduction

Education policies influence classroom actions by providing contexts, standards, and procedures for teaching and learning. Teachers interpret the policy into action by managing the learning environment, implementing particular teaching strategies and enforcing rules and routines.

In this unit, we will examine, interpret, and engage with the ETP 2014 (2023 edition) and other related policy documents on ICT integration in education, as well as identify the role of the teacher while integrating technology in classroom practices.

Below is the video clip that demonstrates how ICTs can support classroom practices and enhance students’ engagement.

        • Policy documents on ICT in Education

Teachers must be aware of policy on ICT (Information & Communication Technology) in education, including its history, current status, challenges, and key policy elements. A national policy on ICT in education aims to incorporate Information and Communication Technology into the education system in order to improve the quality, accessibility and relevance of teaching and learning. National policy documents in this area typically address considerations regarding infrastructure, integration within the curriculum, teacher training and digital skills development for students within knowledge economies.
