  • Introduction

    • Safety learning environment captures whether crisis affected children can learn in a secure environment that safeguard their physical and emotional well-being. 

      • Physical safety: Protection from attacks, occupation of schools, and damage to facilities; access to water and sanitation. 
      • Psychosocial well-being: Availability of school-based MHPSS support and codes of conduct to ensure a safe, respectful learning environment.

      Why does it matter?

      A safe environment is essential for children’s learning. Safety concerns is one of the barrier to education that needs to be address. Protection of the learning environment strengthen participation and achievement, as families are more likely to send children to schools that they trust to be safe. 

      Together, safety and protection indicators measures:

      • Security (protection from violence, occupation, or attacks)
      • Well-being (safe facilities, psychosocial support, codes of conduct)

  • Infrastructure: Access to basic drinking water
