Topic outline
Module 1: Hardware
The aim of this module is that, upon completion, teachers will be able to demonstrate the use of common computer hardware. By the end of this module, teachers should be able to apply basic ICT concepts and identify computer parts and peripherals.
Module 2: Basic computer maintenance and troubleshooting
This module is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to perform basic troubleshooting and computer maintenance.
Module 3: Educational Internet
The aim of this module is that, upon completion, you will be able to describe the functions of the internet in the teaching and learning process as well as demonstrate the ability to use the internet.
Module 4.1: Microsoft Word
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies in understanding the concepts, and use, of Microsoft Word in education.
Module 4.2 Microsoft PowerPoint
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to understand presentation software such as MS PowerPoint (or Google Slides) and be able to create a presentation using this tool.
Module 4.3 Microsoft Excel
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to use ICT to support class administration through the keeping of a digital class record system using a spreadsheet package.
Module 5: e-Mail and Social Media
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to effectively use the internet including e-mail, search and social media functions, in classwork.
Module 6: ICT and the physical environment
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to integrate ICT into the learning environment and manage the use of supplementary ICT resources with individuals and small groups.
Module 7: ICT in support of traditional pedagogy
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to incorporate the use of ICT into learning and teaching processes to support the acquisition of learning area content and skills.
Module 8: Project-based Learning (PBL)
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to manage the learners’ project-based learning (PBL) activities in a technology-enhanced environment to support collaboration.
Module 9: ICT and the curriculum
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to demonstrate how various ICT's can be used to support the teaching of the curriculum.
Module 10: ICT to support assessment
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to demonstrate how various ICT can be used in the curriculum and also used to improve assessment.
Module 11: ICT and policy
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to demonstrate how existing and planned national policies related to ICT impact classroom practices and vice versa.
Module 12: ICT and professional development
This course is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to be able to locate and use resources that will assist in providing professional development opportunities.
