  • What is a Rubric?

      A rubric simply put is a marking matrix! But how do we set one up? In this sub-unit we will investigate what the term 'rubric' means and when we should use one. 

    • Activity 1: Definition of a Rubric

      1. Read the definition of a rubric using the link below.
      1. Log in to the chat room using the link below and discuss the importance of using rubrics in marking schemes in your teaching subject(s).

  • Rubrics to Assess ICT Integration

    • Recommended time: 20 minutes

    •  Sub-unit Competency: Evaluating a Rubric in Action

      In this sub-unit we will look at examples of rubrics that have been devised by some teachers around the world while deploying ICT into school processes and appreciate importance of using rubrics to assess ICT integration in Kenyan schools.

    • Activity 3: Is a rubric the right assessment tool for the task?

      1. Study the the following rubrics that are used in several educational institutions to assess ICT Integration.
      1. Use the forum tool below, entitled, 'Rubric Use', to discuss the choice of a rubric to assess ICT integration in Kenyan Schools. Do you consider it the right tool for this purpose? Ensure that you reply to at least two of your colleagues' posts.

    • Portfolio Assignment - Create a Rubric

      1. Click here to access Rubistar, an online tool that can help you create authentic rubrics for your problem based activities. Sign up to Rubister and use the templates available to create your own rubric. Envisage a section of the curriculum where your students will submit work that requires a rubric making scheme. Use something that has a real application in your subject. Print your rubric in PDF format and save it on your computer.
      2. Use the assignment upload tool below entitled, 'Portfolio Item #3: Rubric Sample', to upload and submit your portfolio assignment.
