Unit Introduction
This unit will encourage you to think of ways in which you can change your teaching style from being mostly teacher- centered (teacher talks and learners listen) to thinking of ways in which you plan your lessons and activities to involve your learners more actively in lessons.
By the end of this unit you should be able to:

Learner survey and critical analysis of current lessons:
In this unit you were provided with information on what it is that American students are looking for in a school. While the information is interesting, it is also important to understand the needs and wants of learners in Gauteng.
- Think
of some questions that you could ask a group of learners that you teach, trying
to find out what
it is that they would
like to learn about and what kinds of activities and technology they would like
to see more of.
- Using
Microsoft Word or a piece of paper, design a survey incorporating the questions
that you have thought of.
- Now,
get at least 10-15 students that you teach to complete the survey for you. (It
would be best if this was done anonymously so that they feel that they can be
honest)
- Collect
the survey results and critically analyse what they mean by asking yourself if the results were what you expected, if not what new things have you found out about your learners?
- You
will use the assessment upload tool below to upload an example of one of the completed student
surveys.
- Finally, click on the
questionnaire below to complete your assignment
questions for this unit.
