      In this unit, we will investigate how we can use social networks to help us communicate with our wider school community. `We will be looking at two social networking tools: Facebook and WhatsApp.

      By the end of this unit, you will be able to:



    • Assessment: Creating a Facebook Account


      Mrs. Ncube has been using WhatsApp with her students but she needs a way to be able to communicate with other teachers. She decides to create a Facebook group where they can interact with one another, discuss things about the school and post photos and videos of school events. She advises you to do the same.



      You have a choice of two options for this assignment. You must only complete ONE:

      OPTION 1:

      Create a group on Facebook for the parents of children in your class or for other school teachers in your school. Once you have created the group, remember to tell other parents/teachers about it and tell them that they can join the group – all they have to do is search for the group’s name on Facebook and click “Join”! 

      1. Remember that the name of the group should be unique so it is easy to find so for example, if the name of your school is King Shaka Secondary school and you are creating a group for the teachers, you can name it “King Shaka Secondary Teachers”
      2. Make sure that when you create the group, you also add your facilitator's name to the group so that you can be graded.

      After you have created the group, discuss in the forum what you think acceptable and unacceptable behaviour on Facebook is.

      OPTION 2: 

      1. Considering what you have learnt about Facebook and how to manage a Facebook group, write out some Facebook group rules and guidelines for you and your class to follow. Upload your rules and guidelines in the space provided below.
      2. After you have written out the rules, discuss in the forum what you think acceptable and unacceptable behaviour on Facebook is.
